E-Bike by Height

Which e-bikes fit short riders?

Seven models list a minimum rider height of 5'0" or lower, and each number is backed by at least two sources. The lowest is the Velotric Triker, a three-wheeler, at 4'10". Four more start at 4'11" (HOVSCO HovBeta, HOVSCO HovCart, Aventon Abound SR, Aventon Abound LR) and two at 5'0" (Velotric GoMad, Aventon Pace 5 REC).

The step-through height is the number that decides whether you can stand over the frame. Only the Triker's is confirmed: 14.6 in (370 mm). For the GoMad and the Pace 5 REC, the maker's figure and a tester's figure disagree, so we print neither. For the rest we have no confirmed figure.

How to use this table

  1. Measure your inseam: stand barefoot, back to a wall, and measure from the floor to your crotch.
  2. Compare it to the step-through height once you have a confirmed one. Bike fit guides commonly suggest at least one inch of clearance between you and the top of the frame. We have not tested that rule.
  3. Treat "minimum rider height" as the maker's advice, not a promise. How low the seat goes matters just as much, and we have no confirmed seat-height number for any of these models.
  4. Try one in person if you can. Aventon, HOVSCO and Velotric all list dealers.

One design detail worth knowing

The Pace 5 REC has no suspension seat post. No suspension seat post; Aventon says this allows a lower saddle. Two sources say so: Aventon's own FAQ and a summary of Electric Bike Report's review.

What we left off, and why

HOVSCO does not ship e-bikes to New York State, and Velotric says it cannot accept e-bike orders shipped to a New York City address.
